Astrology: the Snapshot of Who You Are

In high school, in those teen magazines, there was always a horoscope column. It was geared to your birthday, so I was a Sagittarius. It would be years later before I would learn about Rising Signs and begin to tap into my Gemini traits. Then, a mentor introduced me to my Moon Sign and it was a whole new ball game!

Your birth chart or natal chart is like a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment of your birth, taken from the exact place where you were born. The heavens are imprinted on you and this is the person you are inside. This is your essence. And this is the magic of astrology.

However, your parents take you home, you start walking and talking, go to school, fall in love, get your heart broken, get a job, lose a job, lose a loved one and so on and so on. Each of these events is also a part of you and each one is also found in your chart, on an on-going basis. (These events can be seen as transits to your chart.)

Your birth chart is what you start with and includes the traits, qualities and quirks that you embody on your journey. Your birth chart never changes. It remains exactly the same.

As the planets and luminaries go around the 12 houses in real time each month and year of your life, each one interacts with the planets and luminaries on your birth chart.

These interactions or encounters are called transits to your chart. What happens when Mercury squares your natal Sun? What do you learn when Mars sits on top of your natal Moon? What transpires when Pluto opposes your natal Venus?

One of my favorite things to do is to track where each New Moon and Full Moon hits my natal chart. This month, for example, there is a Full Moon in Libra. Libra is in my 5th House, so I can expect activity around creativity, fun and children during the period of the New Moon in Libra.

However, my 5th House may be different from your 5th House. My Rising Sign is in Gemini, which means that Gemini is my 1st House and then the rest of the signs march around the zodiac wheel in a counter-clockwise motion, in order. Cancer is my 2nd House, Leo is my 3rd House and so on. Everyone has all 12 signs in their chart, although they may not have planets or luminaries in all 12 signs. One of my mentors explained it as having 12 different costumes, with the planets and luminaries wearing different costumes or flavors in your chart.

I’d love to share more about you and your birth chart in a reading. You can go to Astrology Reading and schedule your reading.
